These commands work for me with Wireshark 1.6.2 on Ubuntu Server 11.10 (64-bit):

$ sudo apt-get install wireshark
$ sudo dpkg-reconfigure wireshark-common
$ sudo usermod -a -G wireshark $USER
$ sudo reboot
